5000 miles.

Earlier this summer I took a road trip with my best friend, Isaac (he goes by Oz).
3 weeks. 5000 miles. 11 states.
It was wonderful.
To be honest, I didn't know that there was so much beauty so close to me.

Yes, I said 11 states.
Arizona. Utah. New Mexico. Colorado. Wyoming. Montana. South Dakota. Idaho. Washington. Oregon. California.
During our 3 weeks, some awesome things occurred.
I was in 4 states at once. Yes, I live in Arizona & I've never been to the 4 corners before.
We stayed in a condo on the lake in Breckenridge, thanks to my incredible friend Megan.
Cows. Oz's grandparents have a ranch with lots of cows. I even chased some of them. That's not even the embarrassing part. It made me giggle like a 5 year old.
Oz and I have been best friends for the past seven years. I love him like a brother and he truly is a part of my family so getting to see his little sister graduate high school brought me so much joy.
We took a day trip to see Mount Rushmore. It was neat. I kind of thought they would be bigger or something... but its Mount Rushmore. So you have to see it.
Pike Place is incredible. Thanks to my dear friend Lauren, who I met while studying in Florence & who also happens to be the best host I've ever ever had, we experienced Seattle. But seriously, this girl wrote up lists & lists of things for us to do/see/eat. It was perfect. Oh, and I also went to the original Starbucks.
We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge (and I was that girl who stood up in the car & stuck my head out of the sun roof) & went to Amoeba Music. If you're into records or music in general, you have to go.
We camped in Big Sur, California. It was so incredibly refreshing.
Oz's uncle directed the musical, "Into the Woods" at a grade school in LA and we had front row seats. It was adorable.

Anchors Aweigh. Be Free.

Before you correct me and tell me that its "anchors away", I suggest you google it.
Don't worry, it was news to me too.

A little background.
As you might know, I am a DG and our symbol is an anchor, which represents hope. I also happen to love anchors.
If you were to google "anchors aweigh", you would find out that it is not only the fight song of the US Navy but is also the name of a movie from the 40s. If you were to read a little bit more, you would find the term to "weigh anchor" is to bring the anchor aboard a ship in preparation for departure, and the phrase "anchor's aweigh" is a report that the anchor is clear of the sea bottom & that the ship is officially underway.

There are two sides to everything, I guess.
Anchors can be seen as a beacon of light, as hope.
They can also be seen as something that's holding us down or back. There are so many things in this world that bring us down or slow our pace in doing something truly great. We all have that "anchor".
Is it holding you back from doing something wonderful?
Is it keeping you from traveling or being bold in another area of your life?
Whatever it is, I urge you to set yourself free

Well, whether you're heading off on a trip around the world or letting go of something that been holding you down,
anchors aweigh.

I believe.

painted verses.

I hear a lot of people say that they're Christian but often, they can't even explain what exactly "being a Christian" means or what they believe. That makes me so sad. So with that in mind, I want to say that I consider myself a follower of Christ and what that means to me.

I believe in Jesus Christ. And not only in his existence as a human, but I believe that he was born fully God and fully man. I believe that he faced every temptation during his life and after 33 perfect years, I believe that he died on the cross. I believe that because he was perfect, he was able to sacrifice himself for my eternal life.

I believe that after he was taken off the cross and put inside a tomb, he rose again, conquering not only death but my sins as well. I believe that he ascended into heaven to join his Father and remains there today. I believe that when I die, I will join him because I have placed my trust completely in the Lord.

I believe that before I placed my trust fully in Him, I was separated from God as far as the East is from the West and I believe that there is nothing that I can/could think, say, or do to bridge that gap; Christ did it for me on the cross and the only thing I can do is trust in Him. I believe that walking with the Lord means turning from my past of relying on myself and the good things that I have done and trusting in Him alone. I believe that a life with the Lord doesn't yield perfection or worldly success, but I believe that striving daily to glorify God guarantees an eternal glory, comfort, and love stronger than you or I can imagine.

I also believe that everything I have stated above comes straight from the Bible. However, I encourage you to research and read God's word for yourself. Here are some of the verses that I used when writing this:
Hebrews 4:15 --- Romans 6:24 --- Mark 16:6-7 --- Hebrews 4:14 --- 2 Corinthians 4:17&18
