Frühlingsfest

"Springfest"

Last weekend, Nicole & I went to Springfest in Munich, Germany. We left Thursday night and got in to Munich at around 3 am. After sleeping in on Friday, we went to lunch at Augustiner Braustuben (a restaurant across the street from our hostel) where we got some great German food and beer!

After lunch we went out to explore Munich by bike. We rode around, checked out the city, and took a break at Englischer Garten, an English beer garden, the 2nd largest in Munich.

After our break, we were biking through the park and found people surfing in the canal!

We spent the rest of the evening at the festival in the main beer tent, standing on tables listening to the band while drinking liter beers and hanging out with new friends. Saturday afternoon, we headed back to the beer tents and stayed until it closed at 11.

Early on Sunday, Nicole & I headed to Dachau to see the concentration camp that held over 206,000 prisoners during World War 2. It was definitely a moving and sobering experience walking around and being able to see the place where over 30,000 were put to death from 1933 to 1960.

Cinque Terre

Last weekend, Nicole and I took a day trip to Cinque Terre, an area on the coast of the Italian Riviera made up of 5 villages, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.

We spent the first part of the morning hiking between a couple of the villages and although the first half hour of the 3 hour hike kicked my butt, it was completely worth it. We saw some great views and once we were high up on the mountain, it was incredible peaceful.

Croatia & Bosnia

Let me just start off by saying that Croatia is wonderful. If you can get there, do it

Thursday evening of Easter weekend, Nicole and I headed to the train station to meet up with our Bus2Alps group only to find out that the bus ride to Split, Croatia was going to take around 13 hours. We got into split at about 9 am on Friday morning. We checked into our Hostel, "Fiesta Siesta", took a nap, and then headed out to explore Split. We walked along the coast and ended up at a rocky beach area where we sat and enjoyed the incredible view.

After dinner on Friday, a few of us joined a pub crawl and went to a couple bars in Split. It rained for most of the day on Saturday, but a few of us headed out to Lunch at Fife, a great seafood restaurant in Split. For dinner, a group of us headed to Trogir.

Sunday morning, we left for a day trip to Bosnia. On the way we stopped in Makarska, a city in Croatia.

It was pouring rain when we got to Mostar, Bosnia but we found a great place to eat and by the time we were done, it had cleared up and we were able to go see the Old Bridge.

Sunday morning, we packed up and checked out of the hostel and headed to Krka National Park. We walked around the park, ate some lunch & saw some incredible waterfalls.

Amalfi Coast

For Nicole's 21st birthday on March 30th, we headed to the Amalfi Coast to celebrate.

We left Thursday night and arrived in Sorrento early Friday morning. We got some rest and headed out for a boat tour, a quick stop to see the Blue Grotto, and a visit to the island of Capri.

It was pretty cold and windy but we made the best of it and I got some incredible pictures on the boat tour. The Blue Grotto is a sea cave on the the coast of Capri and is one of the coolest sights to see in Italy. Sunlight shines up through the water,  giving the water an incredible bright blue color.

Once we were in Capri, we got some lunch, did some lemoncello tasting, & some of the girls got handmade sandals. We took a convertible taxi down the mountain, relaxed on some rocks by the water, and drank some wine.

Friday night we headed out to dinner with a huge group at a great Italian restaurant and headed to an English beer garden after dinner to finish the night off right for Nicole's 21st! Saturday, we spent the day laying out on the black sand beaches in Positano.

On our way back to Florence, we stopped at Pompeii to see the ruins caused by the eruption of mount Vesuvius and get one last pizza in southern Italy.
